Totem Books in Flint Launches Pandemic Fundraising Campaign
Totem Books in Flint is an absolute treasure. I remember the first time I went into the bookstore, I stayed for five hours (not kidding). I ordered a coffee from their onsite cafe, and spent hours looking through records and books.
That was many years ago, or as I like to say BC - before covid. The effect that the pandemic has had on small businesses is devastating. Sure there are grants, but instead of relying solely on the hopes of getting said grants - Totem Books is taking matters into their own hands. It is time to fight for Totem (#fightfortotem).
Totem Books has set up a Go Fund Me account to raise $30,000 dollars. All money raised will assist with building maintenance, technology upgrades, and paying employees, all of whom rely on the store as their primary source of income.
One of the things I love most about Totem Books is the bond they have with our community and their customers. The store has also hosted some pretty awesome events like psychic fairs and drag queen bingo. On many occasions, I have browsed the store while listening to some great live music from local performers.
If you have never been, I hope this inspires you to check out Totem Books and donate if you are able to. Totem Books is located at 620 West Court Street in Flint. For more information, check out their Facebook page.
