MILegalize, the group pushing to eliminate marijuana prohibition across the state in 2016, recently sent out a letter stating that while they are “in a position to win,” the group needs some “big time help right now” from the public to put the issue of legal weed on the ballot in the next election.

In the letter, the group says that while their volunteers have contributed to a big portion of their success thus far, they are now raising money to hire professional signature collectors to ensure their initiative goes in front of the voters.

“If MILegalize was doomed to fail we would tell you,” the group said in a statement. “We can make it to the ballot! We aren’t the kind of people to work this hard if we knew there was no hope.”

The group must collect 252,000 valid voter signatures before the issue can be approved for the 2016 ballot. The letter suggests that it is costing them around $2.70 for every signature they collect.

There is a fundraiser happening in Detroit on Wednesday, October 28 and another in Grand Rapids the following night.
