What is Actually Happening With The Jewel of Grand Blanc?
The Jewel of Grand Blanc is just sitting and rotting away right now.
Back in January of 2022, news broke that The Jewel of Grand Blanc was sold to Statewide Management, LLC. Since then, the course along with Paddy McGee's Bar and Restaurant has been closed.
Initially, it was reported that the new owners were going to make some changes to the property. The 36-hole course would be downsized to only 27 holes. The land where the nine holes were to be removed was said to be turned into 124 new single-family homes and condominiums. However, the entire property remains unchanged and looks abandoned.
While I have no idea about what is actually happening, it is still very sad to see the property in the condition that is it in. I'm sure the company has a lot of hoops to jump through before they can start, like zoning ordinances and designing plans. According to the City of Grand Blanc, the developer submitted an incomplete site plan. The city is hoping that the developer will be ready for a Planning Commission Agenda in June or July 2022.
However, would it hurt them to take care of the existing structures and land in the meantime? I happen to know a few people that live in the neighborhoods that but up against the course, and they are not happy. I can't say that I blame them, because if I paid a huge amount of money to live on a golf course and then they completely stopped taking care of it, I would be pissed too. Not only is it an eye sore, but many neighbors have to deal with an increase in pests near their property, including ticks.
I just hope that the developers can get their plans together soon and also take care of this beautiful piece of Grand Blanc while they wait. I have many fond memories there. From the Free Beer & Hot Wings live morning show to St. Patrick's Day shenanigans, and more.
