Lapeer Restaurant Offers Meals To Those Who May Be Losing Food Benefits
A Lapeer County restaurant is stepping up once again. Woodchips BBQ in downtown Lapeer will offer free meals to those who may soon lose food benefits.
According to the Detroit Free Press, the USDA has informed the state of Michigan that November SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits could be delayed if the federal shutdown continues, as funding may run short.
The delay could have a significant impact on thousands of Michigan families who depend on SNAP benefits to meet their basic needs.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, October 28th, 2025, Woodchips BBQ, in partnership with fellow Lapeer businesses Lightning Rounds and Kookys N cream, will offer 200 free carryout chicken dinners to those in need starting at 3:00 PM.
Woodchips BBQ will also be accepting monetary donations and will match every dollar up to $1000 for The Refuge, Good Samaritans, and the Stone Soup Food Bank.
A big thank you to Patrick Hingst, Jessica Harold, and their awesome teams at Woodchips BBQ, Lightning Rounds, and Kookys N Cream for their continued community support.
