Hundreds of jobs will now be available in Sterling Heights at this new delivery station.

A new Amazon delivery station is now open in southeast Michigan. The Amazon "last mile" delivery program hopes to speed up deliveries for the Metro Detroit area. The new delivery station is 569,000 square feet in size and is located in Sterling Heights' Liberty Park Commerce Center.

"Amazon is such a welcome addition to our community...They are channeling hundreds of jobs to our area, which is a great piece of news we can all celebrate...said Sterling Heights Mayor Michael Taylor.

Several hundred jobs will be available at the new station in both full-time and part-time capacities. Those new jobs will also be paying at least $15 per hour and will include benefits. The "last mile" delivery station will also be apart of the Amazon Delivery Service Partner Progam. As that program grows, several hundred more full-time drive jobs are expected to become available.

On top of that, the station is also apart of the Amazon Flex Program. This program offers applicants 21 years of age and older a chance to make money delivering packages on their own time. Drivers reserve a "delivery block" in their area via the Amazon Flex app. After that, those drivers pick up the packages and deliver them to the corresponding addresses. Once the deliveries are completed, drivers get paid via direct deposit twice per week.

To celebrate the opening of the new delivery station, Amazon donated an air hockey table and bubble machines to Play Place Autism & Special Needs Center and a large freezer and hygiene products to the Heritage Community Food Pantry.
