Buc-ee’s Could Build Its Closest-Ever Location to Michigan
If you want to get someone from Michigan excited, just tell them a Buc-ee's is being built somewhere close.
Seriously, anyone who has traveled outside the state and stopped at a Buc-ee's knows just how awesome it is. You can usually tell by the way they brag about going and all the photos they share on social media. I mean, you can't blame them, it is pretty awesome.
Michiganders have been buzzing for years about wanting a Buc-ee’s in the state. They don’t even care where just as long as we get one.
Back in April 2024, a billboard popped up on I-96 near Lowell, Michigan, featuring the iconic Buc-ee’s mascot. It pointed out that the closest Buc-ee’s was a whopping 444 miles away in Richmond, Kentucky. Naturally, this got people buzzing about a possible Michigan location, but so far, there’s been no official word.
Late last year, we told you about a Buc-ee's being built in Huber Heights, Ohio, which is a little over two hours from the Michigan border along I-75. Once built, it will be the closest location to Michigan. Well, that could be changing soon.
Where is Buc-ee's Hoping to Build a New Location?
According to Chron, Buc-ee's is actively pursuing plans to open its first Wisconsin location in Oak Creek, a suburb south of Milwaukee. If it happens, the much-loved travel center, featuring a 74,000-square-foot convenience store with 120 fueling stations, would become the closest Buc-ee’s to Michigan, approximately 95 miles from the state's border.
Before you get too excited, that 95-mile distance only applies if you take the Lake Michigan ferry. See, this is how excited we get about having a Buc-ee’s nearby, we’d even be willing to take a ferry.
A public hearing is scheduled for March 18, 2025, where the Council in Oak Creek will consider the rezoning and land use amendments.
We're just hoping that Buc-ee’s notices the love Michiganders have for the popular spot and will one day bless us with a location of our own.
