Last year, Rite Aid announced it was closing all of its remaining locations in Michigan. When the announcement was made, there were still more than 175 locations still open and operating.

One of the casualties of the closure announcement was the Rite Aid located on the corner of Belsay and Lapeer Roads in Burton.

While many former Rite Aid locations in Michigan have flipped into Dollar Tree stores, plenty still sit empty. The Burton Rite Aid was one of those, but that’s about to change.

According to MLive, the Burton Planning Commission recently approved plans to transform the old Rite Aid building into a gas station and convenience store.

The developers, Hader and Donavan Shango, are turning the old Rite Aid into a nearly 5,000 square foot convenience store along with three more spots for businesses, and one of those even has a drive-through.

If this feels like déjà vu, it’s because just earlier today, we told you about plans to demolish Elwood’s Restaurant and Pub in Burton to make way for new development. That project also included the building of a gas station and convenience store. Yup, literally right down the street.

I guess I didn’t realize Burton was so desperate for gas stations. Yep, that’s sarcasm—this feels a little overkill if you ask me.

Well, like everyone says on social media, I guess it’s better than just letting it sit abandoned.
