Big Changes Could Be Coming to Michigan McDonald’s
The days of handing cash to a cashier at McDonald's could be coming to an end, even at Michigan locations. No, McDonald's isn't moving away from accepting cash. It's more about the company possibly saying goodbye to the traditional cashier behind the counter.
Now, there's no reason to freak out just yet or start yelling about how they're eliminating jobs. That's not the case. According to the New York Post, McDonald's is introducing new digital kiosks that can accept cash and dispense change—a step that could eventually reduce the need for human cashiers at its locations. Again, don't panic. I know it sounds like they're eliminating jobs, but McDonald's claims cashiers will be reassigned to other positions.
Many McDonald's locations already have kiosks similar to those used for ordering from the app. The difference here is their ability to accept and dispense cash.
A spokesperson for McDonald’s stated:
These changes allow franchisees to meet our customers’ increased desire for digital options while improving speed and accuracy.
This is only in the testing phase right now, as the company has placed these kiosks in just a few of its restaurants. With the way the digital world is evolving, I think this is a great idea and will likely take off quickly. I'm sure that, at some point, these kiosks will make their way into Michigan.
The good news is, you'll no longer have someone to blame for taking your order incorrectly. If the order is screwed up, you'll only have yourself to blame. Let’s be honest, I’m sure my fries will still end up missing.
