Dio’s Epic Show: Rare 1986 Concert Footage from Flint’s IMA Arena
Ronnie James Dio passed away on May 16, 2014. Today, we share with you a rare video of Dio performing live at the IMA Sports Arena in Flint in 1986.
This isn't just a clip of Dio performing in Flint, it's almost the entire show. The only thing that's cut out from the video is the drum solo and part of the keyboard solo, other than that, it's all here.
If you know me, you know I'm a huge Dio fan. So, to find this rare video that was recorded right here in Flint is something special.
Did I watch the entire video? You bet I did. From 'King of Rock and Roll' to 'Rainbow in the Dark', I watched it all. As soon as Ronnie James Dio started singing 'Don't Talk to Strangers', the hairs on the back of my neck stood up.
I wasn't going to share this video until May 16, the 12 anniversary of the passing of Ronnie James Dio but I just couldn't wait that long.
Considering this is fan-filmed footage from 1986, the quality is really good. It was posted on YouTube in 2018 by Master Tape Network which claims the picture and audio were remastered.
Master Tape Network:
By today's standards this footage may seem crude, this is the best documentations on record of this show. If not for the techniques of these innovative filmers we would not have these amazing historic live concert documents. Now sit back and witness this show in a whole new way.
They claim this concert is from June 6, 1986, but other sources say it's from June 27, 1986. Either way, it was filmed in 1986 at the IMA Sports Arena, now called the Dort Financial Center.
