Does Michigan Have an Official State Dog?
There was an article this week that we shared that talked about how the American Robin has been Michigan's state bird for nearly a century but that could be changing soon. The topic got me wondering whether or not Michigan had an official state dog.
You would think every state in the country would have an official state dog or pet but it seems only 13 states in the U.S. has an official state dog.
Does Michigan Have an Official State Dog?
Surprisingly, the answer is no. well, not yet anyway.
There were some rumblings a couple of years ago about Michigan legislators that were working on a bill that would designate shelter animals as Michigan's official state pet. Honestly, I'm not sure where they ended up that as I haven't heard anything since.
The state of Michigan has an official state bird, fish, reptile, and game mammal (white-tailed deer) but for whatever reason, we don't have a state dog. I think were due to make this happen.
What dog breed would best represent the state of Michigan? Even though my favorite dog breed is the Great Dane, I think it should be the American Labrador or German Shepherd. What do you think?
