‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ Campaign Underway
I totally get how the pandemic can drive you to drink, but that does not give you permission to drink and drive. By not drinking and driving you will save money, and more importantly you just may save a life - maybe even your own.
Starting today, you will see an increase in patrol cars on Michigan roads. The annual campaign runs through January 1, 2021. There are so many options these days for safe rides, getting behind the wheel after drinking is just plain dumb. Get yourself an Uber or a Lyft. Call a taxi, call a friend, walk if you have to - just do not get behind the wheel.
I should point out, with all of the bars and restaurants closed, there is no where to go anyway. If you want to go to a friends house and party, stay the night. We would all like to believe that we are invincible and won't get caught - until we do. It is just not worth it.
According to the Office of Highway Safety Planning in 2019, there were 9,787 alcohol-involved crashes in Michigan with 295 alcohol-involved fatalities statewide. Don't be a statistic. You can still have fun, just stay off the roads.
You matter, and although it may not seem like it now - things will get better. Stay home, stay safe, don't drink and drive. I want to have a drink with you in 2021, we will just need a ride. Cheers!
