For Real? Flint Apartment Residents Left Without Heat for Weeks
Residents living in a high-rise apartment complex in Flint are struggling this winter as they are forced to live day to day without heat. You read that right—they have no heat in their homes in the middle of winter when temps are at their lowest.
Residents of an apartment building north of downtown Flint told ABC 12 that they have been without heat for weeks—not days, but weeks.
From what we understand, residents at River Village Apartments include families, older adults, and disabled people, and they are being forced to run dangerous space heaters or, even worse, their stoves just to try and keep warm.
Residents say that they have tried to reach out to management but they are getting nowhere.
The company behind the apartment complex told ABC 12 that Goyette Mechanical in Flint was coming out this past Wednesday to work on the issue. However, ABC 12 looked for the crews but never saw them. Later, ABC 12 found out that Goyette Mechanical in Flint won't work at the River Village complex due to past issues.
I've got to give credit to ABC 12 for doing some serious investigative journalism and bringing this story to light. People need to know that this is happening in our community.
To make matters worse, they've also been living without hot water. Not only are they freezing in their homes, but they can't even take a hot shower to warm up. The whole situation is gross, and someone needs to be held accountable. These residents feel like they don’t matter, and that couldn’t be further from the truth.
