Free Parking in Downtown Flint is Going Away Soon
If you’ve been enjoying parking in downtown Flint for free and not having to deal with those annoying meters, well… the fun is almost over.
We’ve all been getting away with it since the city scrapped the glitchy and hard-to-use AutoPark system over a year ago. It was installed just five years earlier, but between constant issues and frustrated drivers who wanted to pull their hair out every time they needed to park, Flint finally pulled the plug. Since then, it’s been a meter-free free-for-all on Saginaw Street.
Free Parking in Downtown Flint Ends Later This Month
That all ends August 18 when paid parking officially returns.
According to MLive, the new system is powered by Passport Parking—the same one used in Grand Rapids and Ann Arbor. Thirteen kiosks are being installed, and it’ll run you $1 an hour, with a four-hour max. You can also pay using the app or a text-to-pay option.
For now, the $1/hour charge only applies to Saginaw Street. Side streets downtown will stay free until Phase 2 kicks in sometime next year.

The DDA says this setup should be way less frustrating than the last one. And yep, you can still pay tickets online or at their Church Street office.
