Flint Welcomes Major African American Rodeo to Town this Weekend

The Midwest Invitational Rodeo is coming to the Genesse County this weekend.

The event features some of the nation's top black cowboys and cowgirls. Not only will you witness spectacular riding and roping, but you'll also learn about black cowboy history.

The story of the Black Cowboy has never really been lost, but it's very rarely been told.

The Midwest Invitation Rodeo started back in 2017 and features many third-generation black cowboys and cowgirls.

Midwest Invitational Rodeo contestants are a diverse group in the sense that we are Nurses, Counselors, Business Owners, Construction Workers, Teachers, and Office Managers. And yes, some are Ranchers, Horse Trainers, and full time COWBOYS. Some were raised in the country, some in the inner cities. But we all share a common love for the sport of Rodeo and the Cowboy Way of Life!

This specific rodeo came to the Wayne County Fairgrounds last summer, and in attendance was Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley. He was so impressed by the event that he wanted it to come to Flint. Back in May while appearing on Good Morning Mid-Michigan (ABC 12), he stated that he even intends on keeping the event in Flint for the coming years.

The Rodeo runs on both Friday and Saturday at the Everett A. Cummings Center in Mount Morris. Hurry and get tickets now, as Saturday's event is already sold out.

Tickets are $20 and the rodeo is set to kick off at 7 pm. However, it is recommended that you arrive 2-1.5 hours early so you don't miss out on any of the fun!
