Hard Knocks: Detroit Lions in the Spotlight of Hit HBO Series
The phrase 'Hard Knocks' takes on a whole new meaning when you're talking about the Detroit Lions. And our very own Lions will find out what 'Hard Knocks' is all about as the hit HBO series shines its spotlight on the team.
The documentary series follows NFL teams throughout training camp and according to ESPN, the Lions were one of three NFL teams that couldn't turn down the invitation to be featured on the show. The other two were the Carolina Panthers and the New York Jets.
Rod Wood is the Detroit Lions' president and CEO. He says the organization is excited about the opportunity to showcase the team and the city of Detroit.
"We are excited about the opportunity to showcase the City of Detroit and the amazing culture we are building at the Lions," Wood said in a statement. "HBO Sports and NFL Films are the best of the best, and we know they will be excellent partners in sharing our story with football fans around the world."
Coach Dan Campbell, known popularly as the kneecap guy, has brought a special brand of charisma and personality to Lions news conferences and is sure to be featured prominently in the upcoming series. The Lions finished the season with a 3-13 record this year with Campbell at the helm in his inaugural year.
According to the Detroit News, a 30-person NFL film crew will be at the Detroit Lions' training camp facility in Allen Park beginning in August. The crew is expected to shoot roughly 1,750 hours of footage in preparation for the series.
The season is expected to debut on August 9, 2022.
