I-75 Closed This Weekend: Oakland and Genesee Counties Affected
[UPDATE] The construction project scheduled for this weekend has been postponed until next weekend. If weather permits, the project will start on Friday, August 16.
If you're planning to travel on I-75 this weekend, you might want to plan ahead, as you may need extra time to reach your destination.
Look, we get it—you're sick of construction. We are too, but unfortunately, all this work you see around the state is much needed. Not to mention, winter isn't too far off, which means construction crews are racing against the clock to finish as much as they can before the snow starts flying. So, while the delays are frustrating, they’re helping ensure safer, smoother roads for everyone.
Alright, let's dive into what is expected to be a small headache for drivers this weekend—at least, that's what we're hoping it'll be.
According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, parts of I-75 will be closed this weekend for emergency pull-off and temporary crossover construction in northern Oakland County.
As part of the ongoing I-75 project between M-15 (Ortonville Road) and the Oakland/Genesee county line, crews will construct emergency pull-off areas and temporary crossovers in the median.
Northbound I-75 will be closed from US-24 (Exit 93) to Saginaw Road (Exit 106) starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, August 9, and reopening by 5 a.m. on Monday, August 12.
Northbound I-75 traffic will be detoured onto northbound US-24 (Dixie Highway) at Exit 93 in Clarkston, continuing north to rejoin I-75 in Genesee County. This phase of the project is expected to wrap up by late fall.
Just remember, we can't complain that our roads suck and then complain when the state attempts to fix them. We can't have it both ways.
