Michigan: Is Chick-fil-A Changing Its Famous Chicken Recipe?

Nearly six months after the Flint area finally got a taste of those famous Chick-fil-A sandwiches, a change could be on the horizon.

Flint residents waited a long time, but the first Chick-fil-A restaurant in Genesee County finally opened in September 2023. Greg McKay was born and raised in the area before moving to Savanah, Georgia, and then returning home to open the much-anticipated store.

There are 29 Chick-fil-A restaurants in Michigan and more than 3,000 restaurants across 48 US States, DC, Puerto Rico, and Canada, according to the chain's website.

Changing the Formula

The chicken chain just revealed that it would be shifting from antibiotic-free chicken starting this spring. Supply issues is the reason cited for the company's shift.

The announcement from Chick-fil-A reads:

"To maintain supply of the high-quality chicken you expect from us, Chick-fil-A will shift from No Antibiotics Ever (NAE) to No Antibiotics Important To Human Medicine (NAIHM) starting in the Spring of 2024."

According to the restaurant chain's website, the shift to 'No Antibiotics Important to Human Medicine' allows for the use of chicken antibiotics if the animal and those around it were to become sick - in that case those animals would be treated with antibiotics that are not intended for human use.

In order to meet US Food and Drug Administration requirements, all antibiotics have to be cleared from the animal's system before it can be considered safe to use by restaurants.

Tyson Foods and Panera Bread have recently made similar changes, citing supply issue.
