Popular Fast-Food Chain Closing Over 150 Locations — But Opening in Michigan
It’s not every day a restaurant chain shuts down over 150 locations nationwide, yet still plans to expand in a state where it doesn’t even have a presence. However, that's exactly what's happening with one popular fast food chain.
This year, Michigan has seen its fair share of closures and bankruptcies, including TGI Fridays, Red Robin, and Hooters, among others, as well as several independent restaurants.
For years, Michigan residents have been begging, pleading, and wishing for Jack in the Box to expand and open locations here. Well, as far as we know, that’s still the plan despite the recent announcement about closing more than 150 locations nationwide.

According to The Street, Jack in the Box rolled out its “Jack on Track” plan back in April, and it’s not exactly great news. They’re planning to close 80 to 120 underperforming restaurants by the end of 2025. And that’s not all. The company says it will eventually shut down another 70 to 80 locations after that.
Is Jack in the Box Still Coming to Michigan?
While the Jack in the Box closures have already started, the company is still planning to open its first Michigan location. Last year, we told you they were aiming to open five new spots in Michigan, with the very first one set for Battle Creek.
As far as we know, the plan to open in Battle Creek is still on, but they haven’t said when it’ll actually happen yet.
