Popular Retailer Closing 500 Stores—33 in Michigan
Finding craft supplies may get a bit tougher as a popular chain prepares to close 500 of its roughly 850 stores.
Last year, we got word that the popular fabric and craft chain Joann was filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. At the time, it was unclear whether they would be able to pull out of the situation without closing any stores. Well, it doesn't look like things worked out that way.
Back in early January, we got word that the company was planning to close eight locations across Iowa, North Carolina, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, and Massachusetts. Customers in Michigan were relieved to see their local stores spared...at least for the time being.
According to USA Today, Joann is preparing to close more than half of its U.S. locations. The company will shutter roughly 500 stores out of around 850 locations in the U.S.
How Many Joann Fabric Stores Are Closing in Michigan?
Joann is planning to close 33 locations across the state.
According to WDIV, stores in Flint, Burton, Lapeer, and Saginaw will be closing for good. You can see the list of all 33 stores, here.
With Michigan having a total of 41 stores, this means the company is shutting down nearly all of its locations in the state.
With so many stores closing, I wouldn't be surprised if another announcement comes later this year stating that all locations are shutting down.
