Warning: Michigan Beaches Closed Due to High Bacteria Levels
It's not even officially summer in Michigan, yet we're already seeing beach closures and contamination advisories due to high bacteria levels.
With over 1,000 beaches in the state, Michigan offers plenty of opportunities for fun in the sun. However, some beaches frequently face closures or contamination warnings. Check out the list below of Michigan beaches currently closed or under advisory.
- Arenac County - Whites Beach, Arenac County Park, Hammel Beach Road Access, Twining Road Beach, and Singing Bridge Beach. All five beaches have been closed since May 30. This list was updated below.
- Bay County - Bay City State Recreation Area has been closed since June 4.
According to WNEM, the source of the bacteria for all the beaches is unknown.
Those aren't the only beaches closed in Michigan. According to the Michigan BeachGuard System, seven other Michigan beaches are either closed or under a contamination advisory including the following:
