Do yourself a favor and check your freezer to ensure you don’t have a bag of chicken nuggets sitting on Michigan's recall list.

No one wants to hear that their favorite brand of chicken tenders or nuggets is being pulled from freezers and shelves due to possible metal contamination. Metal contamination? If it sounds alarming, that's because it is. People have reported finding metal wire embedded in the nuggets.

It's unclear how the metal wire pieces ended up in the chicken nuggets, but the manufacturer is investigating the issue to prevent further contamination. It's also unclear which state the metal pieces were found in. However, the product is sold nationwide, including right here in Michigan.

The USDA reports that Perdue Foods has recalled approximately 167,171 pounds of frozen chicken tenders and nuggets that were distributed and sold across the country.

The following chicken products are subject to recall:

  • 22-oz. (1.38-lbs.) vacuum-sealed plastic packages containing “PERDUE Simply  Smart ORGANICS Breaded CHICKEN BREAST NUGGETS” with Best If Used By date of “03 23 25″ represented on the back of the package.
  • 29-oz. (1.81-lbs.) vacuum-sealed plastic packages containing “PERDUE CHICKEN BREAST TENDERS with Best If Used By date of “03 23 25″ represented on the back of the package.
  • 22-oz. (1.38-lbs.) vacuum-sealed packages containing “BUTCHERBOX Organic Chicken Breast Nuggets” with Best If Used By date of “03 23 25″ represented on the back of the package.

You can view the labels, here.

All of the recalled products were produced on March 23, 2024, and bear an establishment number of “P-33944″ on the back of the package

The concern is that some consumers may still have the product in their freezers. If you have the recalled products in your freezer, you should throw the package away or return it to the place of purchase.
