Delivery drivers are dropping off packages to Michigan residents from sun up to sun down and every hour in between. And let’s be real, this can get a little sketchy if homeowners aren’t keeping up with things. Icy sidewalks, busted steps, or a surprise Amazon box right in the middle of the porch could send someone flying. But if a driver takes a tumble on your property, are you the one on the hook? You're probably not going to like the answer.

This time of year can be especially dangerous due to all the ice and snow we’ve gotten recently. If you've got a sidewalk covered in ice and someone slips and falls, the consequences could be serious.

According to Fieger Law, if a delivery driver slips and falls on your property and gets hurt, they can file a premises liability claim against you to seek compensation. So, in many cases, you could be held liable if someone gets hurt on your property.

The best way to cover yourself is to throw up some signs warning drivers about uneven steps, clear out any trip hazards, and make sure your not-so-friendly pets are secured when visitors are around.

The other thing you can do is always make sure your driveway is shoveled and you put down some salt to keep it from turning into a skating rink. The last thing you want is a delivery driver wiping out because of an icy patch you didn’t take care of.

Guess I should start taking my own advice. I haven't shoveled my driveway in weeks.
