Oh No! This Michigan Retailer is Closing 40 Stores by Year-End
We had a feeling this was going to happen.
At this point, we're starting to lose track of the number of businesses that have announced closures, bankruptcies, restructuring plans, or significant layoffs.
It seems the retail world is an absolute mess these days.
Big Lots just announced this week that they are planning to close 35-40 stores nationwide. The news wasn't a big shock to anyone, as there have been rumblings for months.
According to RetailWire, in a filing to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the company announced its intention to close these stores while opening three new ones. In the first quarter of 2024, the firm reported 1,392 operating stores, down from 1,425 in the same period in 2023.
With Big Lots announcing all these store closures around the country, Michiganders are starting to wonder if any local stores are at risk of closing. With 46 stores throughout the state of Michigan, I would have to think we will lose at least a couple. If we do, it will more than likely be underperforming stores.
As of right now, Big Lots has yet to announce what stores will be closing.
Here's a list of the cities that still have a Big Lots location:
