Michigan Teens Built Something on Belle Isle You Have to Hear to Believe
Just when you thought all news was bad news, then comes this awesome story out of Detroit.
A group of Michigan high school students spent their summer building something you’re honestly going to want to see. It’s a massive wooden megaphone now sitting on Belle Isle.
It’s not for shouting into, though you could if you wanted to. Actually it’s the opposite, it’s for listening. The megaphone amplifies all the sounds around you, from bird chirps and leaf rustles to frogs croaking and water splashing, hitting your ears like nature’s greatest hits, practically begging you to turn it up to 11.

The megaphone was built as part of an Atlantic Impact program that helps teens explore new skills and career paths, according to WXYZ. For most of them, carpentry was completely new. They went from never touching a saw or knowing which end of a tape measure to use, to figuring out tricky angles and getting everything to fit without wobbling. What they accomplished in just a few weeks is seriously impressive.

Now their work is part of the island for everyone to enjoy. And maybe the best part? Years from now, they can come back, point at it, and say, “Yeah, I helped build that.” However, I’m sure that's something that they’re already saying.
