How Road Construction Led to a $1 Million Lottery Win

A 70-year-old woman from Port Huron just won $1 million playing King Cashword, and the crazy part is that it all happened because road construction messed up her usual routine.

According to MLive, she buys a King Cashword ticket pretty much every day and normally walks to the same store near her home.

But on this particular day, it was too hot for that.

So instead of walking, she decided to drive.

That’s when all those lovely Michigan orange barrels actually worked in her favor.

Construction made it a pain to get to her usual store, so she ended up stopping at a completely different store she’d never been to before.

And yeah… that's when her life completely changed.

The Scratch-Off Ticket Changed Everything

Later that night, she scratched the ticket and saw something most of us only dream of.

One. Million. Dollars.

She said she was so shocked she called her son, who told her to sit down because he thought she might have a heart attack.

What She Took Home After Taxes

The winning ticket was purchased at Speedy Q in Port Huron.

Instead of taking annual payments, she chose the lump-sum option, which came out to $693,000.

Does anyone actually take the annual payments?

Seriously, I feel like every lottery winner takes the lump sum. I would do the same.
