Remembering Robert Redford And His Michigan Filming Connection
Hollywood legend Robert Redford has died at the age of 89.
Famous for his roles in classics like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Out of Africa, and The Way We Were, the acclaimed actor also stepped behind the camera to direct films such as Quiz Show, The Legend of Bagger Vance, and The Conspirator, among others.
According to the New York Post, Redford passed away today, Tuesday, September 16th, 2025, in Utah, surrounded by loved ones.
In 2018, Robert Redford starred in The Old Man & the Gun, a film based on the true story of bank robber Forrest Tucker. Redford played the lead role, portraying Tucker.
Fun fact: Some scenes from The Old Man & the Gun were filmed in Jackson, Michigan.
The movie filmed scenes inside the former Cell Block 7 Museum, which was once part of Jackson State Prison.
According to MLive, four days of filming took place at the museum in the spring of 2017.
This was Redford's final acting role before his retirement. Although he made a cameo as Alexander Pierce in Avengers: Endgame (2019), that scene was filmed before his retirement announcement and is not considered his last role.
Did you see the movie? Did you already know some of the scenes were filmed in the Great Lakes State? I had no idea until now.

Robert Redford has much to be proud of, not only for his achievements in acting and directing, but also for founding the Sundance Film Festival. His legacy will indeed live on.
