The Heart of Flint to Host Eastside Community BBQ Event on Saturday
If you're looking for something to do this weekend that benefits the Flint community, there's a really cool event taking place on Saturday.
The Heart of Flint is holding its first-ever community barbecue event aimed at bringing Flint residents together with free food (for everyone), music, games, kids crafts, bounce houses, face painting and more.
Nicole Riley who is one of the organizers of the event and a member of the Heart of Flint group recently talked with MLive about this Saturday's community event.
This weekend we will be doing the community barbeque as another way to introduce ourselves to the community. It’s not just coming in, throwing a bunch of free stuff at them and then leave - that’s not what we’re about. We are about trying to build a true relationship with the people, getting to know the people, getting to know their needs, to see if we can meet those needs, and just build those true relationships.
I personally know the Riley's and can tell you they truly care about the Flint community. They want nothing more than to create a fun day that brings everyone together.
Their ultimate goal is to reignite the spark in Flint and remind residents that they're not forgotten. It's all about coming together to make Flint a better place to live.
On a side note, if you go to the event, try to get Nicole's husband Jeremy to pick up his guitar and play because that dude can shred. However, it's probably not a "shredding" kind of event...or is it? Seriously though, he's awesome.
Where will the community barbecue be held?
The event will be held at Amos Park (Triangle Park) on Broadway Blvd and Vernon Avenue which is right off Davison Road between Franklin Avenue and Dort Highway.
The event is free for everyone and goes from noon until 4 pm.
