It’s got to be a scary experience at times for women getting into a ride-share, especially if you’re in an unfamiliar city. Whether it’s a late-night trip home or just a routine drive across town, you never really know who’s behind the wheel, and that can make a simple ride feel anything but comfortable.

Uber’s New Feature Gives Women Riders More Control and Safety

Well, ladies, Uber is looking out for you. They’re testing a new feature that lets women riders choose to be matched with women drivers. It’s all about making those rides safer and way more comfortable.

It’s kind of crazy that it took the company this long to come up with something like this, considering Uber’s been around for over a decade now. You’d think safety features like this would’ve been a no-brainer from the start.

According to CNBC, Uber will start piloting the feature soon in just three U.S. cities: Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Detroit. Yep, Detroit’s in the mix.

The new setting lets women riders choose a preference to be matched with women drivers. And on the flip side, women drivers can set their app to pick up women only. It’s not a guarantee, but it definitely boosts the odds.

When Will Uber’s Women Driver Feature Launch in Michigan?

Uber has not specified an exact start date, but the new feature is expected to roll out in the next few weeks.

This is going to be an awesome feature for women, and honestly, it’s long overdue. If it helps even a little bit to make rides feel safer and more comfortable, then it’s a win.
