Ugly Sweaters And Teddy Bear Tosses This Weekend With The Firebirds
The Flint Firebirds are in action this weekend for back-to-back home games at Dort Event Center. Friday night is Ugly Sweater Night and Saturday night is the teddy bear toss for charity and Joe Kocur night.
If you are heading out to the games this weekend, here's what you can expect.
Friday night the Firebirds will be taking on the Hamilton Bulldogs. Be sure to wear your ugly Christmas sweater and you will get a $5 discount on select tickets for the game. After the final buzzer, be sure to stick around. The Firebirds will be hosting a live on-ice auction featuring some awesome ugly sweater Firebirds jerseys. All the proceeds from the auction will benefit the Old Newsboys in Flint.
On Saturday night, you can cheer on the Firebirds as they take on the Niagara IceDogs. It is also the annual Teddy Bear Toss for Charity. Bring a new or gently used stuffed animal and hurl it onto the ice after the first Firebirds goal. All those stuffed animals will then be collected and distributed to the Ennis Center for Children, Hurley Medical Center, the Michigan State Police, and the Whaley Children's Center. Last year, over 1,000 stuffed animals were tossed onto the ice for charity. Just remember to put your stuffed donation into a plastic bag before you throw it to keep it from getting messed up on the ice.
Another great reason to head to the Firebirds game early is that it is also Joe Kocur night. The former Red Wing and 4-time Stanley Cup champ will be signing autographs before the game from 6 pm-7:30 pm. The first 1,000 fans through the door will get a free photo card that you can use to get an autograph from the man himself.
The puck drops both nights at 7 pm. Go Firebirds!
