The University of Michigan has withdrawn its offer to host the second presidential debate in October due to coronavirus concerns.

The announcement was officially made on Tuesday to cancel the event. The debate was to be a face-off between President Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden and was scheduled for October 15 in Ann Arbor. It was to be held in the Crisler Center where the school's basketball team plays.

According to the report, U-M is making the move because of concerns of bringing the campaigns, media and supporters of both candidates to Ann Arbor and campus during a pandemic. “It is with great disappointment that I must ask for the University of Michigan to be released from its agreement with the Commission on Presidential Debates to host the Presidential Debate on Oct. 15, 2020," said President Mark Schlissel.

Schlissel went on to say, “Given the scale and complexity of the work we are undertaking to help assure a safe and healthy fall for our students, faculty and staff and limited visitors — and in consideration of the public health guidelines in our state as well as advice from our own experts — we feel it is not feasible for us to safely host the presidential debate as planned."

With Ann Arbor being taken off the books, the debate will now take place in Miami, Florida. There will be two other debates taking place as well, one scheduled for September 29 at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, and one October 22 at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee.
