Bakery With Three Locations Makes the Best Bread in Michigan
From the southernmost tip of Michigan to the farthest point in the Upper Peninsula, the state is home to hundreds of bakeries and likely well over 1,000, depending on how you count them. From small independent shops to large commercial ones and even in-store grocery bakeries, there is no shortage of places to grab a fresh, tasty loaf. The question is: which one makes the best bread? Well, you're about to find out.
No doubt about it, bread is one of my many weaknesses. A nice warm slice with melted butter dripping off the sides? Oh, so good. But then we’re told not to eat bread because of all the carbs, sugar, and whatever else experts can come up with. Well, that doesn’t mean you can’t break the rules every now and then and indulge yourself.
If you're going to break those rules, there's one Michigan bakery with three locations where people can’t get enough of the bread. And according to Love Food, it's the best in the entire state.
What Michigan Bakery Has the Best Bread in the State?
Love Food, a well-known food publication, recently named the bakeries with the best bread in every state. Their picks were based on user reviews, plus the awards and recognition each bakery’s earned.
With locations in Detroit and Ann Arbor, Avalon International Breads was named the bakery with the best bread in Michigan.
- Avalon Woodward in Detroit
- Avalon Canfield in Detroit (next to Third Man Records)
- Avalon Ann Arbor
Love Food:
Avalon has a great range of sourdoughs with charming names, including Wheat Wheat, a sweet and nutty, wholegrain loaf, Motown Multigrain – packed with oats, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, and flaxseeds, and Poletown Rye, with wheat and flours. Regulars insist a visit to one of its three cafés isn’t complete without taking home a loaf of farm bread.
Come on now, tell me this doesn’t make you want to jump in your car right now and head to Avalon.
