At this point, it’s hard to keep track of all the businesses closing or that have already closed in Michigan. Between Joann Fabric, Big Lots, and Walgreens, things aren’t looking good this year for so many traditional brick-and-mortar stores.

It looks like a bunch of Dollar General employees will soon be out of work as the company just announced it is planning to close nearly 100 more stores across the country, and Michigan locations could be on the chopping block.

Dollar General is the latest retailer feeling the heat. In an effort to stay afloat, the company is shutting down 96 stores, hoping it’ll put them in a better spot to serve customers.

96 stores may sound like a lot, but when you consider that there are more than 20,000 in the U.S., it's less than half a percent of their total locations.

The company also revealed it's closing 45 Popshelf stores. Popshelf is Dollar General’s attempt at a more upscale shopping experience, with a focus on home decor, beauty, and seasonal items. But even that move couldn’t avoid the financial struggles the company is facing.

What Dollar General Stores Will Be Closing?

The company hasn’t released a full list of affected stores yet, but many shoppers in Michigan are wondering if their local store is at risk. That information will likely be released in the coming weeks.

Dollar General has been around since 1939 when it was founded as a small discount store in Kentucky.
