Imagine cruising down I-75 at 70 miles an hour when you suddenly see headlights coming straight at you.

Police Spot Wrong-Way Driver on I-75 in Grand Blanc Township

That's what drivers on northbound I-75 in Grand Blanc Township faced early Monday morning when police say a driver was going the wrong way on the freeway.

The incident happened around 1:40 a.m. just south of Dort Highway according to ABC 12. Grand Blanc Township Police received a call about a wrong-way driver and officers began looking for the vehicle. An officer spotted the vehicle as it passed Cook Road and immediately activated the patrol car's lights and siren. Thankfully, the driver pulled over relatively quickly.

Davison Man Blows .26 on Preliminary Breath Test

According to Grand Blanc Township Police, officers quickly determined that the driver appeared to be seriously intoxicated. Police say the driver was a 28-year-old man from Davison. His preliminary breath test came back at .26.

That's more than three times Michigan's legal limit of .08 for drivers 21 and older. The driver was arrested for operating while intoxicated, or OWI. His name has not been released.

Grand Blanc Township Police Release Dashcam Video

Grand Blanc Township Police have now released dashcam video showing the traffic stop from early Monday morning. The video provides a look at how the officer responded after receiving the report of the wrong-way driver.

For drivers, it's another reminder of just how quickly a routine trip down I-75 can turn into a potentially life-threatening situation. And in this case, the biggest takeaway may be what didn't happen: no crash, no injuries and no tragedy.

The 28-year-old Davison man remains accused of OWI. The case is pending, and police have not released his name.
