Michigan can offer many amazing things, but beautiful lakes are right at the top of that list.

Not only are Michigan's lakes beautiful, but they’re also powerful forces of nature—sometimes so powerful that they make you feel almost insignificant.

Some Michiganders never get to see or experience just how powerful our lakes can be, especially those who live inland or rarely visit any of the Great Lakes.

Some of the photos below are from 906 Images, shared to mark 49 years since the SS Edmund Fitzgerald sank. Kivi posted 49 shots on Facebook—one for each year since that tragic day—as a powerful tribute to just how intense Lake Superior can be.

The others were taken on November 12, when gales brought winds gusting over 50 mph. Kivi also shared those photos on social media.

Shannon Kivi:

The majestic waves at Presque Isle Park's Black Rocks were truly breathtaking.

This isn't the first time we've shared Kivi's impressive photography skills. Over the years, we've shared his stunning work from pretty much all the seasonal changes in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. You can also see some of those photos in the gallery below
