Video Shows Worker Falling 150 Ft. From Bridge into Detroit River

A man is lucky to be alive after falling 150 feet from the Ambassador Bridge into the Detroit River.

Last Wednesday (7/13), a contractor who was working on the Ambassador Bridge somehow lost his footing and fell off a platform into the Detroit River. Why the man wasn't in a harness or tethered to the bridge is unclear.

Thanks to multiple people who witnessed the incident, he was rescued by a crew aboard a Detroit mail delivery boat.

Sam Buchanan, captain of the J.W. Westcott:

The force of the impact had ripped most of his clothes off of him. His work boots were still on him and his pants were around his ankles and he had his T-shirt on.

Buchanan told Fox 2 Detroit that they were relieved that he could even talk to them but he was pretty out of it. He kept asking the crew what had happened while they were trying to keep him warm with blankets.

It's unclear how he managed to survive a 150-foot fall like that. His body must have landed perfectly in the water for him to survive.

It's amazing that footage of the man falling was caught on a nearby security camera. It's kind of hard to see the man at first, you might have to watch it a few times before you actually see him fall and splash into the water below.
