MI Man Dies While Pumping Gas After Drunk Driver Crashes Into Pumps

Imagine you're pumping gas when all of a sudden a semi-truck comes from out of nowhere, crashes into the gas station, and causes a massive fire. Well, that's exactly what happened recently to a 43-year-old man from Baraga, Michigan. Unfortunately, that man tragically lost his life.

According to Up North Live, a semi driven by a suspected drunk driver crashed into a Holiday gas station in L’anse, striking the pumps and triggering a “large-scale” fire Thursday around 11 p.m.

The man that was pumping gas was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

One of the employees that had been working that night was also taken to the hospital after suffering injuries from the incident.

Apparently, the driver of the semi was a 22-year-old man from Illinois. There was also a trainee in the semi-truck who was not injured.

So, there was a 22-year-old man allegedly driving a semi-truck drunk while training another person? How in the heck does something like this happen? I mean, the trainee would have to have known that the man was intoxicated, right? I have so many questions.

The driver of the semi was arrested and placed in the Baraga County Jail for "operating while intoxicated causing death."

Baraga County is in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, it's roughly 75 miles east of Marquette.
