Back in the day, you never thought twice about answering the door. Nowadays, it can be downright dangerous. It is like every knock could be someone trying to sell you something you do not want or, in this case, someone trying to hurt you.

On August 13, a Michigan homeowner got a scary reminder of that when a man pretending to be a utility worker tried to break into their home and allegedly assaulted them when they said the man couldn't come in.

According to Up North Live, Michigan State Police are asking for the public's help in finding the suspect. The incident happened around 9:25 p.m. on Seneca Trail in Bagley Township, near Gaylord.

Fake Utility Worker Attempts Home Break-In in Michigan

The homeowner told police that a man knocked on the door but stayed out of sight. When they opened the door, he claimed to work for a powerline company and warned that their account would be shut off the next day. That is obviously a big red flag right there.

The fake utility worker then asked to come inside, but when the homeowner refused, he allegedly assaulted them. Thankfully, the homeowner managed to close and lock the door.

The suspect drove off in a black older-style pickup truck, possibly a 2009 or 2010 Chevrolet or GMC, with LED headlights. Police describe him as a man in his 30s, about 5'10 to 6 feet tall, with short brown hair, no facial hair, a deep raspy voice, and a tattoo on his left upper arm near the bicep. He was wearing a black polo shirt and khaki pants.

Police are reminding everyone to stay on their toes, keep doors locked, and not open the door to strangers. Anyone with information that could help should contact the Gaylord Post at 989-732-2778.

So, the next time someone shows up at your door and you do not recognize them or cannot see who they are, do not answer. It is just not worth the risk.
