Michigan Girl, 17, Arrested After Stealing, Crashing Police Cruiser
Stealing cars is already bad enough. Stealing cop cars is worse.
Early in the morning on New Years Day, around 4:30 a.m., Grand Rapid police officers stopped a vehicle filled with teens. Police were responding to a 911 call about a large fight when they stopped the vehicle. The description of the minivan matched the minivan that was said to be involved in the fight.
Upon being pulled over, 19-year-old Gidalthi Reyes-Marcia, took off running and the two police officers chased after him and caught him a block away. During the chase, their cruiser was left unattended. The cruisers dash cam recorded seven people run from the minivan that was pulled over, including 17-year-old Alyssa Martinez. Martinez then jumped in the cruiser and tried to drive away, hitting the minivan while doing so. She also ran several stop signs and ditched the cruiser about one mile away. The cruiser was found with a GPS unit, where Martinez was arrested nearby.
Martinez is now being charged with Unlawful Driving Away of an Automobile, Malicious Destruction of Property, Felony Resisting and Obstructing Police, and more.
I understand that kids are stupid, but this is too much. If you're going to run from the cops, just run. Taking their car is just dumb.
