What's said to be a "one-of-a-kind beach" has broken ground on the Detroit Riverfront and is scheduled to open in 2019.

According to WDIV, Atwater Beach will have a sandy beach, a playscape, a grassy area with trees and a shed structure for programs and events. The new beach which has been 15 years in the making will be near a new pedestrian bridge connecting Chene Park East and Stroh River Place, the park will also feature a floating café barge serving tasty food and drinks.

I'm a little confused on one aspect of the project. They say it's not a swimming location but a beach themed play area for kids. So what confuses me is that it's called "Atwater Beach" but it's not a swimming area yet in the illustrations, they show people playing in the water. Watch the video below and you'll see what I'm talking about. Maybe I'm just an idiot...more than likely, that's the case lol.
