Two Cases of Omicron Variant of COVID-19 Found in Genesee County
Looks like the Omicron variant of COVID-19 has arrived in Genesee County.
Two confirmed cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 have arrived in Genesee County. According to reports, the two residents that tested positive for the Omicron variant were ages 18 and 64. Apparently, these two residents tested positive for COVID on December 1st and 2nd.
These two cases could be the second and third confirmed cases of the Omicron variant in Michigan. The first confirmed case was discovered in Kent County. Michigan is now on the list with over 20 other states with confirmed cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.
Where did the Omicron variant originate?
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the first cases were detected by the World Health Organization from samples collected on November 11th and November 14th. These two samples were collected in Botswana and South Africa respectively. The new variant was officially named Omicron on November 26th and the first confirmed detection of it in the United States was on December 1st, 2021.
