New Bill Would Allow Schools to Start Before Labor Day
I didn't realize that schools couldn't start before Labor Day unless the state granted a waiver.
With this new bill, schools would be allowed to start the school year before Labor Day under legislation in Lansing.
According to WNEM, Senate Bill 271 would allow schools to open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in August.
I guess I'm just feeling kind of old school about this and not a real big fan of change. I just always like the idea of kids having June, July and August off for the summer and going back to school after the holiday weekend. It's just what we're used to. I'm sure adapting would be no big deal, I just like it as is. Maybe I won't even have to deal with it, just depends on the school.
The Committee on Education already approved the legislation, it's now being sent to the full chamber for consideration.
