Storm Could Bring 6 inches of Snow to Upper Michigan This Weekend [VIDEO]

Weather forecasters are keeping an eye on an impending winter storm that could dump six inches of snow or more on the northern portion of Michigan's lower peninsula.

No watches or warnings are currently posted, but the National Weather Service in Gaylor indicates that a swath of Michigan from Travers City down to Muskegon on the west side of the state and from Midland up to Rogers City one the east have the greatest possibility of impactful snow.

“A potentially impactful storm system across mainly northern lower Michigan this weekend with accumulating snow likely Saturday and Saturday night. The exact track and strength of this system will determine the area of heaviest snowfall.”

The outer regions of the storm's impact could stretch as far south as Saginaw and as far north as St. Ignace.

The timing of the storm is expected to have the greatest impact on that region Satruday (12/12) afternoon and evening.

According to the NWS:

• A winter storm will likely impact the area Saturday and Saturday night.
• 24-hour snow accumulations of 6+ inches possible.
• Northeast winds gusting between 20 and 30 mph.
• Accumulating snow will be the main impact of the storm. Some blowing snow is likely as well.

Up North Live's Joe Charlevoix says two weather models both indicate at least six inches of the white stuff.

"We're going to have to iron out exactly where this heads and the strength of this potential system for what the impact will be here in Northern Michigan."
