Well, here we go again with another major construction project in Genesee County that's going to leave drivers frustrated for the next couple of years.

Starting Wednesday (10/15), MDOT will shut down the left lanes in both directions of I-69 between I-75 and Morrish Road.

Why MDOT Is Building Crossover Lanes on I-69

Crews are building median crossover lanes, which are basically temporary routes that let traffic shift around while major bridge work happens down the road.

This is all part of a massive $33.3 million project to repair 15 bridges and overpasses along I-69 in Genesee County, plus a couple more near Sheridan Road in Shiawassee County. It’s a big job, and yeah, it’s probably going to be a little annoying, but the work’s got to be done. Crews will be handling overlays, deck replacements, and steel repairs to keep everything safe and solid for years to come.

How Long Will the I-69 Construction Last?

The heavy-duty construction doesn’t actually start until March 2026, but it’ll last through October 2027, so yeah, it’s going to be a while.

If you can, I’d suggest avoiding this stretch of I-69 altogether. I know, easier said than done.
