Kid Rock tore it up over the weekend up in Saginaw, Friday and Saturday nights. It was the show to be at for sure. If you missed out, no worries, Minty was there to catch all the action.

 We are nearing the end of our month long celebration of the 11 year anniversary of The Machine Shop in Flint, MI. But that doesn’t mean we are slowing down the party… in fact we are ending with a bang! Part of that bang happened last night as Michigan’s own Pop Evil took the stage with special guest Otherwise and Crackjaw! The whole Banana crew were out in full force with Tony LaBrie broadcasting live and Maggie Meadows, Chris Monroe and even Anne Erickson hanging out with the sold out crowd last night! A continuation of the Shop’s 11 year anniversary, Trapt brought the show Saturday night and there wasn’t one person in the building not jumping up off their feet! Of course, Tony LaBrie and the rest of the Banana 101.5 crew were in the building to help celebrate! Any excuse to drink, right? Check out all the photos!

This past Friday night Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver fame performed to a sold out crowd at The Machine Shop. We’ve got the pics right here for you to check out.

Swedish metal band Avatar rolled into Flint this past Saturday night for their first ever headlining concert on US soil. Those in attendance were completely blow away by the band’s performance. Minty there to snap these awesome pics.

Maggie and Chris kicked off the festivities with the maiden voyage of the “Tampon Toboggan,” which didn’t go as well as planned. Chris ended up getting out to push twice before they made it to the bottom of the hill, guess their tampons were a little too absorbent.

Their are some really great looking sleds and everybody seems to be enjoying themselves, as the conditions are perfect for the race. We’ll have some more pics and video footage (including Maggie and Chris’ disappointing kick off run) later, but here’s a look at a few of the sleds that are here today until then.

After repeated dick jokes about my sled all this week, I decided to start phase 3 of the project — titled “Operation Castration” — which is documented step-by-step in the photo gallery below.

First, I drew some wavy lines on a piece of cardboard and cut them out using my trusty box cutter (because “utility knife” is a term for fancy people). Next, I attempted to glue them on, piece by piece, around the trunk (shaft). Apparently, I picked up the wrong kind of glue, so I went back to duct tape. The idea was to make these pieces resemble the bark on the tree.

After that we attempted to move it from my basement to the garage for paint. We quickly realized that the section you would refer to as “the balls” was too big and we couldn’t fit it up the stairs. I had to punch in the side of the sled just to get it out in the garage, which was easily repairable with some more duct tape. We blasted the tree with a few coats of spray paint and that’s pretty much it.

We still have a few last minute details we plan to add but it will look pretty much like it does in the last picture below when you see it going down Mt. Holly this Saturday. There is still time to sign up (you can do that below) and we hope to see you at Tim Horton’s Cardboard Classic!
